acer apire v5 571pg is charging only when it is shoutdown

my acer apire v5 571pg is not charging when it is on. but charges while it is shoutdown, can any one help me -

This can be on of several problems. Did it ever at one time charge while the laptop is on? Have you had it hooked up to anything that might have been through a power surge?

first of all thanks for your response, this system is upgraded to windows 10 and there was no problem for the past 2 months in charging, and recently, it restored to the older-version i.e win-8 and it was charging well, now again it is upgraded to win-10 and it was charging well for a week, but now again it shows

This is either the battery or the adapter, and we need to find out which.

- Can you run the laptop without the AC adapter plugged in? Does the battery die fast if so?
- Does the laptop battery charge while its on?
