Acer Aspire 5738G screen won't turn on

My laptop suddenly stopped working, when I press the power button, it starts glowing as if the laptop was starting up, but the screen never shows anything. Once in every 20 or so tries it will actually show the boot process until it goes off again at some random point.

My question is, can I do anything to diagnose anything from this and how much would repairing/replacing the display/mobo/gfx card cost?

Try with an external monitor to see if the system starts.
