Hi

I have a grandmother that's got a Acer Aspire E1-522 that starts up with the auto repair, i know there is a virus on it so i need to take a backup of the disk, but the problem is, that i can't take a backdoor in to the pc to access the harddrive.
So i was wondering if that auto repair wipes the entire disk or just repairs it ?

Thanks in advance :)

The repair tries to copy whatever Windows files the system thinks are corrupt or missing with what is available form the system restore or the Windows disk.

This often happens when there is a physical issue with the hard drive.

You can remove the drive, install it in an external enclosure, run a scan for viruses on it with Malwarebytes and another anti-virus program (Avira, AVG, Panda, etc...) and copy the files from it. Then you can just restore the system to factory defaults. I would run a drive test on it also. Seatools will scan just about any brand of hard drive for errors, not just Seagate, you can try that utility on it.
