Could be a failed backlight. Shine a flashlight on it and see if you can see some of the screen. Either way, more info would be helpful in figuring out the problem.

Could be a failed video card, I had a 7720z with a dead 8400m - the laptop would boot, enter windows, work but nothing on screen at any given time.
