I just ordered a brand spanking new Acer 7750g. It comes with two HDD bays and I was super excited until I tried to install a second hard drive.

I installed both drives but the second one wont FIT!! It appears as though I need new plate covering that will support a dual hard drive setup. Anyone know where I can order such a thing and maybe a new HDD mounting bracket also? Ive been browsing and am having no luck, Im hesitant to call in.....

UPDATE:

I couldnt find what I was looking for online. Some items came close but didn't have my exact model #, usually doors for different model aspires. So I contacted Acer (online chat and phone call) and they both told me to go to my local computer supplier. Im kinda frustrated because I cant understand why a computer would come with two HDD bays but the Door is blocking the entire secondary hdd slot.

I also dont understand why Acer doesnt make these parts readily available. I would be more than happy to purchase one but I honestly cant track one down.

If I cant find anything Im making soft after market modifications myself.

Anybody have an idea for DIY hack to get a second HDD in there? I have been looking for the part for ages and have not had any luck. Apparently it's on backorder at the Acer Factory and they haven't produced it for a while even though tons of people are driving to put 2 HDDs in.

That it is. $50 isn't a dealbreaker for such a feature... trust me. My laptop wouldn't be nearly to my liking if it weren't for having a 2nd drive bay.

Though, I've made laptops without them have them by getting an optical drive HDD caddy. Works wonders.

I just took a Dremel and cut away at the plastic until the drive fit.
A SSD would take up little space, requiring very little cutting.
A HDD a little bit more cutting would be needed. (Which this is what I did, as SSD are too overpriced for my taste)

i just pushed in the plastic fins with my thumbs and they come right off. there were just some pegs left which i popped off by sticking in my screwdriver and torquing it. i just filed anything else down to make sure the surface was level with the cover. And... the drive is still too big!! I have a kingston HyperX 3K ... I don't know if it is bigger than other ssd's but it's same size as a normal laptop hdd and definitely does not fit... arghhh

how did u fit anything in there uberslackr?? did u cut a hole in the cover??

Not sure why it would not fit for you..
My HDD came from an Seagate GoFlex Slim portable drive that I tore the plastic outside case off.
Its a tight fit, but it fits..
Not sure how much smaller that most HDD, or even SDD it is... never looked for the Dimensions details.

You could try removing the unnecessary casing from around the SDD board. Since its just a board with a bunch of flash memory chips on it.. it should be the right size after. then just place a couple rubber spacing/washers (can be found at radio shack) to fill the gap between the SSD board and the bay door.

Note: Not all drives are the same size...
Your drive has Dimensions of
Width - 69.85mm Depth - 100mm Height - 9.5mm
You'll find smaller ones (by only a mm) and bigger ones...
Those measurements are based on the case, not the actual board size
