I've had this laptop for nearly 3 years without issues, but in the last few months, I've had thermal issues.

The temps are around 70c idle and increase to usually around 100c under light-moderate loads. I noticed this after a semester of FPGA programming especially under synthesizing. The weird thing is that although the CPU temps say 100c, and the fan is screaming :pt1cable: , the air coming out of the fan is cold, and the bottom of the laptop is barely warm. Elevating the laptop has negligible effect.

I'll clean out the heat-sink soon, but I was also wondering if anyway has had any issues with the thermal paste on these laptops? I'm dreading doing it since it looks a bit more complicated than their desktop counterparts. Any thoughts would be much appreciated :wahoo:

Also for those not too familiar with this CPU, I have talked to friends with the same CPU, and they have much lower temps.

Specs:
Model: Acer Aspire E14 (ES1-411-P2LF)
CPU: Pentium N3540 (2.66GHz Boost)
RAM: 4gb
Storage: Samsung 850 Evo

Solved it :) !!!!!!!

On closer inspection, one of the mounts on the MB for the CPU cooler to screw into has come off the MB. This looks to be because it relies on being compressed into a hole in the MB. I put this back in firmly, put some fresh thermal paste on (Just for good measure) and screwed it all back together. Now idles around 44c and can't even hear the fan
