Acer has black screen but display driver works on TV monitor

My display driver (AMD Raedon HD 6320) was freaking out last night randomly (ie it kept resetting, trying to load the desktop image) so i cycled the power and now the screen wont engage when I turn on the laptop. I hear all the log on sounds and the fans are good, and when i plug in my HDMI cord to my tv I get the display right, sound and all. What could possibly fix this? I need my laptop for law school in class!

Can you boot to safe mode and tell us what happens? That should take the driver out of the equation and tell us if it's damage to the display.

Alternatively, could you take the TV to class with you?
