Can you please provide more details about your laptop such as its model number, which version of Windows was installed on it at the time of purchase, did you use the restoration/recovery discs to reset the laptop to factory defaults, etc.?
In case you upgraded to Windows 8 from any earlier version of Windows, you might need to perform the upgrade again and then talk to the Microsoft customer support team to re-register your Windows 8 product key that came along at the time of purchasing Windows 8.
