Adding a password to a folder

I need to be able to add a password to a folder for business purposes. Is there anyway to do such a thing? It needs to be able to work across platforms between iOS, Mac OSX, and all versions of windows. Any help would be appreciated.
 
How is this "folder" shared between these platforms? External disk? Shared network folder? Cloud service?

Put your sensitive data into password-protected ZIP file. Or use something like (now defunct) TrueCrypt, which puts data into password-protected "containers".

As for iOS - dunno, I don't consider this "business purposes" use.
