Adjust Windows 8 Display Settings on Your Laptop

In order to increase or decrease the brightness of your Windows 8 laptop screen, you can use the shortcut keys (a combination of multiple keypresses on the keyboard. For example the Fn key pressed along with the right or left arrow key simultaneously (in some laptops Fn + F6/F5) may increase or decrease the brightness. Alternatively you can also go to the Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options, and move the slider accordingly from the bottom of the right pane of the Power Options window to adjust the brightness.

On the other hand, changing the screen resolution is slightly trickier, as you want to pick an option that will best fit your screen.

Here is how you can change the screen resolution in your Windows 8 laptop:

■Log on to your Windows 8 laptop with any account. (No administrative intervention is required to change the display settings for your account in Windows 8.)
■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.

■From the Screen Resolution box, click the Resolution drop-down list.
■Use the displayed slider to choose from the available resolution options. (Move the slider down to get lower resolution, and move it up to get the higher one. By default, the highest available resolution is set in most cases.)

■Once you find the appropriate resolution option, leave the slider there, and click OK.
■On the displayed Display Settings box, click the Keep changes button to confirm the new resolution. If you do not like the new resolution settings, you can click the Revert button on the Display Settings box to revert the settings to the previous configuration, and start over.
Note: If you fail to click the Keep changes button on the Display Settings box before 15 seconds, the screen is automatically reverted back to the previous resolution.
