Hi All.

I am planning on purchasing a new laptop this summer and I wanted to know what you guys think is a good current laptop.

I have looked into the latest lightweight Sony Vaio and Alienware i think is too expensive for my tastes..

Also this Q relates to me wanting to upgrade my dads tech too as I believe he is using an old Dell Inspiron... but I need to check that.

Basically what would you buy? Also I would prefer to have something over than Apple.

Thanks

Well my advice is unless you don't want to use java (needed for games etc) then avoid buying a chromebook. There are alot of great laptops out. I would avoid alienware (just too costly for a gaming laptop), and while Macs are expensive they last as long as 6 to 7 years whereas a basic laptop of today will last at best 2-3 years.

This ultrabook for example, will run some basic gaming and do web surfing and emails. If you want something a bit more powerful, then you could go for this...

You made a good point. I definitely won’t prefer so-called expensive laptops. Well there are many good yet in-expensive laptops out there. You didn’t specify your need like which processor do you prefer and etc. How about a Chromebook or Acer Chromebook C720P ($300) or Acer Aspire E1-47G ($599).

The i5 in that should handle tasks, and while its not recommended to sit on your lap on desks, etc it should stay cool. If I was not going to buy a mac, I would most likely buy the Lenovo
