After shutdown my laptop it is not performing shutdown nothing is happening

Shutdown,lock,sleep these options are not working even though i clickedon the option to perform those

Did you try holding down the power button, removing the charger cord and/or pulling out the battery? And then trying to start it up again to see if it gets stuck again or not?
