I personally own a 14" laptop and I think it's great. If anything I might get a 15", but definitely not go lower. I feel 13" is too small, and the alienware will have a smaller footprint but it will still be thicker.

Although the lenovo isn't designed for portability, it's still a perfectly viable option and most people have laptops in the 15" range (even people with macbooks).

The alienware is a dual-core and the lenovo comes with an ssd. Also if you take a second to look at either laptop its pretty obvious the lenovo looks much classier. I once thought alienwares were the best thing ever with the coolest effects, but then I learned to appreciate subtlety (one of the reason's the razer blade and asus zenbooks are the best looking laptops).

But strictly performance wise, they have the same ram, video card, but the lenovo has a larger higher res screen with a large ssd and quad core cpu, its a much better choice.

Thanks you for the quick response, what is your opinion on the lenovo's size? As a student portability is important for my daily tasks, however weight is not an issue, more so the footprint, do u think that's an issue? (I've only owned a 13" laptop)

- I have an alienware 13, a friend has the lenovo y50. Alienware defintely looks much cooler, has a sleek design, but is less powerful,
