I recently purcashes a late 2015 alienware 17 r3 for 700 on sale. It has an i7,8gb ram ,1tb hdd and 970m. This model is the full hd version not 4k. So i was wondering if i could add components because ive seen other 17 r3 with ssd + hdd and also with sli gpus. Or is my model diffrent?

Oh, I read the chart above wrong. I read your PC as the M17xR3 instead of the M17 R3 (they're different).

I do apologize, but I am glad you caught it.

Anyways, this still means you upgrade the storage and memory (hard drives, SSD's and RAM). You could also replace the battery if its going bad.

Yes! I am going to redirect you to this master chart here that shows what you can upgrade.

https://na.alienwarearena.com/forums/thread/99648/technical-support-1/the-mini-technical-support-faq-for-your-alienware-computer

According to the chart you can upgrade your GPU, but not your CPU. Please look at the chart for the specific GPU's you can upgrade too. You can also upgrade your HDD's/SSD's and RAM(memory). Again, please follow the chart regarding those two upgrade.

I hope this helps you! If you have any other questions let me know!

Sorry for the down vote i didnt mean that. I just saw a tear down and i cannot upgrade my cpu or gpu. They are both soldered onto the mobo. My laptop is an alienwarw 17r3 not the mx 17. Unless im lucky enough to have one that has mxm gpu. I highly doubt it because mine is a late 2015 model and come with a graphics amp.

Thanks for the chart though. It helped. SO would you keep this and get a graphics amp? Or would i be better off with An upgradeable laptop with a mxm gpu? Im asking because since i just moved i cant take my desktop because it takes up too much room. Im going to be in this apartment for at least 3 years.

If you're looking for better FPS then the Graphics Amp and a 1070/1080 would be great. Also, keep in mind you might one day upgrade to a PC and place the 1070/1080 in it, or just use the AGA on your next laptop.
