Hey all,

Alienware are having a $300 off sale on the m17x as long you get at least a quad core and 8gb memory (so basically 8gb of memory for the price of 4gb). I'm considering:

i7 720qm (820qm + $300 and 920xm + $900)
dual ati 5870m 1GB with crossfire
8 gb ram 1333hz
250gb regular hard drive
Wirelass 1520 half-mini card (intel ultimate n wifi link 6300 + $60)
900p resolution (1200p + $200)

I'm sick of having to buy a new laptop everytime a new Totalwar or civilization comes out and my real issue is the chip worth the extra money?will it give me longevity? and which one?
And is it worth $60 for the wirelesscard?
Any other suggestions for this gaming system?

Thanks

how quickly do you need it? honestly, alienwares are a little overpriced, youre paying for the name.

if you have time to wait, i'd recommend the ASUS G73jh-A1. Very well featured, but it will take about a month to a month and a half to arrive. I ordered mine 2 days ago.

Itll come standard with Blu-Ray, 1080p 17.3 screen, 8GB ram, the 5870 (sadly not crossfire), dual 500GB drives, and the i7 720qm. All for $1645. Hard to beat.

That is a sweet deal, so much more for your moeny. Why dont other laptops offer 5870 in crossfire, its frustrating! I have plenty time to wait, I'm just annoyed on the markup for processors. an Extra $1000 for a 920x extreme. So this this costs like $1400? what bs. what do u think about upgrading the wirelass card?

im not sure why ASUS does not offer crossfire, I imagine it is because of keeping costs low. I'm also not sure about the wireless card, there has been some talk on other forums about upgrading. For my use, I went with the standard, since it will work just fine and save me a little money.

The one for 1200 is not the same exact machine. It only has 6gb of RAM, 500gb HDD space and a 1600x900 screen instead of the standard 8gb, 1 TB, 1080P. Either way it is still a really good machine. Just making sure that you know exactly what you are getting.

yeah I saw the differences. Little more hard drive, 2gb extra ram and 1080p. they have one for $1550 thats like the one you ordered at compusa, I was amazed that bestbuy had such a great offer, but they are totally sold out in florida and unavaiable online :-(. I'll wait for such great value thou.

The x-3 version with downgraded HDD to dual 320 gigs and no mouse/backpack is 1.5k at Compusa, Tigerdirect, and Circuit City. 12% bing cashback brings it down to 1.3k-ish. And I'm pretty sure you don't have to wait cause it's in stock. :)

Pretty sure you sign up for a bing cash back account and then you just buy stuff and it'll send you an email. Not sure about the reliability of the cashback, but according to some it works flawlessly. I suggest you search it up on google or bing.

you won't get Bing cashback for this unit. It strightly says so on the website itself for this specific unit. With that being said...

BCB works like this....
1. You type in a search word that will bring up the "bing cashback banner" to the specific store.
2. You click on that bing cashback banner (you might see a bing sign on the page)
3. Sign up for a "bing" cashback account" (registering an email).
4. Make a purchase from the company that is offering the BCB.
5. Pay with paypal
6. Money will be credited to your "bing cashback account" after purchase.
7. Get cash in few weeks. (Like a rebate)
