Alienware mx15 no power

A friend's Alienware laptop died after getting water spilled on it. Nothing happens when you pressed power. No lights, fans, ect.
So I took it apart, and on a gamble replaced the motherboard (can always return it). There is no visible damage to anything but the ribbon connector to the IO board for the side USB and headphone jacks (replaced that too).
After putting it all together with the new mobo there is still nothing.
The power cord has a blue LED so I know it has power. I was hoping for something to happen, even a system beep.

Is there anything else I can check before scraping it?

Maybe it's a bad CPU?

I hope not... I have no comparable system to drop it in and test it...
I don't know any other way to test a CPU
