damn! I go to U of Toronto but my email doesn't have .edu in it. :( But apparently it doesn't matter. Hopefully Amazon.ca will follow suit

It'd be sweet if they gave you Amazon Prime for the duration of your college enrollment instead of just 1 year.

[citation][nom]scook9[/nom]Is there any obligation beyond that first year or can you simply get a year for free?[/citation]

Nope. Just took less than 5 minutes to sign up. You just have to provide a .edu address and then click on a link that is emailed to you. No entering of CC numbers or anything.

Yeah I left U of T two years ago, but while I was reading the article I was wondering if my email was still active, then I got to the 'currently enrolled' and 'US only' parts, though I guess neither should have suprised me.

At least with Amazon.ca, you get a chance to have your merchandise hand-delivered by Ramona Flowers.

Just an FYI on this. It you happen to copy your .edu email address in to the box when signing up and there is a space after it you HAVE to take the space out. The programming on the form is weak sauce.

$80 a year? I usually just order my books a couple weeks in advance with media mail, which is cheap. Cheaper than $80 for sure in a years time.

www.australia.edu offers free email service. Pretty sure it's yourname@australia.edu but I haven't used it.

You'll still need a US Shipping address and it's possible that Amazon already filters the free .edu service at sign up.

... Im left speechless! I just fkn bought a guitar on another site with a huge 50lb amp, and the fkn shipping left my butthole sore! The guitar and amp cost 50 bucks less on the other site, and the shipping...omg!

Well, at least I know where to buy next time.

Amazon.ca gives free shipping on orders over 39.99. Seeing as how I pre-order my games from them this has always worked in my favor.

Why does amazon.com only give free shipping to students? That's very sad.
