damnit, its not 16:10

if apple had to push a resolution, i wish it would be 16:10 instead of 16:9... that way it gets adopted to more monitors, and slowly high resolution pc monitors would get cheaper... i would hate it if 16:9 became the standard and 16:10 stayed a specialty item with an increased price tag for really no reason.

Hooray! Apple are finally inventing the tv. It's about time that somebody did. Now all they have to do is sue the estate of John Logie Baird.

That would be great but 16:10 is just no longer the standard 16:9 now is. With 27" 16:9 pushing out 30" 16:10 and 1920x1080 pushing out both 1680x1050 and 1920x1200.

What I never understood in the first place was why HDTV was made at 16:9. Most movies are shot in 2.35:1 so why not use that?

Because most TV movies and series, shows,... have an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Apple pays Samsung to make the IPad, Whats really not from China? You think your OP Apple isn't made in the same low end factory? You think Apple Manufactures have golden hands and touch every apple device with total love and care? Foxconn employees kill them self over Foxconns and Apples pay rate. At least Samsung will make bank off of Sharp and then off apple for some displays.

Because Apple sure as hell isn't actually making it.

cost... you have to imagine that even now, many movies are still shot on actual film, and tv shows dont have an endless budget that a movie has, so they have to go cheaper... well... not cheaper... tv cameras cost in the range of 50000$ to fit a stupid standard, even if a 5000$ camera is just as good quality wise, you also have to remember that its precieved that people hate widescreen, and movie and tv produces are borderline retarded (the people in charge, not the directors and creators)... they went a middle of the road. not to wide, not to 4:3

at least for a pc, i will never use a 2:1 a 16:9 or a 4:3 ever again, after having a 1920x1200 16:10, its something you never want to move away from.

plus the bennifit of having a large screen space, a taller monitor for 4:3 content and a wide monitor that also fits 16:9 with barely any bars, allows for ui to be present and not distort or modify video

unless you need a new monitor, or have money burning a hole in your pocket, i suggest holding off till 2014 for a new monitor, oled should hit tv hard this year or next, and monitor oleds should follow after the tvs... i differentiate monitors and tvs, my 1920x1200 is a monitor that has a tv tuner, my brothers 16:9 120hz tv has a port to also be used as a monitor.

Before you can assemble a product (cheap in China) it must be designed. Also lots of software must be written. Apple designs in the US (per their claim) and also writes software in the US or at least designs the software US.

The 16:9 screen format has been in use a long time before any TV show was filmed using digital cameras and before LCD TVs were sold. But if 16:9 is an issue for you you can always buy a TV with a different aspect ratio like a 2,39:1 TV.

I'm frankly happy to just know there's projected "market demand" even if I won't be one of the lucky 5 million until Toshiba, LG or Samsung are mentioned as manufacturers of higher resolution screens.

He might have a point.

After arguing the 16:10 it yesterday I went home and compared my 24" sammy with my 42" Toshiba. Frankly I don't need a taller monitor while a wider one would be easier to use if it has more vertical lines of resolution.

21:9 or 5040x2160 would be an interesting resolution.
