In the US there are more users with iPhones than Android phones, particularly among critical affluent car buyers. Android Automotive is a fine OS, but iPhone users aren't looking for a better Android UI experience in their cars, they want CarPlay. Also, an Android phone user is better off with Android Auto that takes advantage of the phone in their pocket.
