Any reason NOT to buy this build?

From cyberpower... New sandybridge chipset, good ram, seems like quality parts, total cost is ~530.

Any reason to avoid this laptop?

Or anyone have any better buys than this?

You didn't mention the 1920x1080 resolution 15.6" LCD screen. Nice!

And it includes a copy of Windows. That's usually a 'gotcha' there on Cyberppwer.

The screen is a HUGE plus. And I gutted the copy of Windows, I have 3 laying around and its not a big deal for me, which drops the price a bit.

Any negatives?

And is it worth the i5 upgrade?

The only think I can't find is an independent review saying the laptops are decent.

You probably want to visit the CyperPower forums and see what owners of the laptops - this model and previous models - are saying about them.

If you have a copy of Windows already I'd say upgrade the CPU.

You don't plan on any gaming, right?

Core i5-2410M @ 2.3 GHz is also getting you Turbo Boost to 2.9Ghz and the HD 3000 graphics instead of 2.1Ghz, no Turbo and HD 2000.

Maybe some VERY light gaming, but moreso looking for battery life and so forth for school, I'm trying to avoid making this a gaming laptop... I get too tempted.

Good plan IMO. You can always relax with a movie or some music.
And you always have the 2D board games, etc.

How do you think the HDMI-out would do with HD video playback?

No problems what so ever. That's a powerful video card and a great CPU.

What possible PROBLEMS do you see with this setup?

And are there any competitors that can come close to this?

It could be crap.
