anybody know why some of my contacts have been lost when i have changed handsets? can i retrieve them?

not sure why some of my contacts appear in my address book but some others seem to have randomly dissapeared. does anybody know if i can retrieve the missing ones? have my gmail account still but out of ideas.thanks.

You may have Contacts stored in Groups and not all the groups were linked to your G-mail account. Do you still have the old 'phone?
