I've been trying to get surround sound from my TV through my Blu-Ray player's surround system and I couldn't get it to work, so I went and purchased a AV Receiver hoping that would work. I can't seem to get the audio from the TV, so I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong.

T.V. : http://www.vizio.com/e500ar.html
Blu-Ray System : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882103583
Receiver : http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STRDH550-5-2-Channel-Receiver/dp/B00J30GXW2

I have all HDMI cables. Starting with Receiver to TV(ARC). Then I have the Blu-Ray player system to the Receiver. Finally, I have a gaming system (X-Box/PS) or a Roku2 as the last thing plugged in to the Receiver.

I've tried all sorts of combination of settings on the TV and the Blu-Ray settings menu, but I can't get the TV to emit audio when it's on the Roku or the Game System. The audio works when I use the Blu-Ray even if I switch to another output via the Receiver, but still no sound from the correct hardware. Example: I use a Ipod to play some music from the Blu-Ray player, switch to another channel on the Receiver and the music still plays, but no the audio from that player(Roku/Console System).

Solution
The receiver is of no real use to you since the Panasonic HTS duplicates it.
Connect the Roku, games and HTS to the TV with HDMI/
Also connect the digital audio out of the TV to the HTS (this is for audio on sources other than the BD player).
If you can't get sound this way then try changing the audio output type in the TV audio menu.
If that doesn't work then you can bypass the TV and use an external HDMI switcher that will extract the audio from the sources and connect that to the HTS. You could connect the HTS directly to the TV with HDMI for BD playback (or go into the switch).

Ok, so I do need a digital audio cable then? I wasn't sure since everywhere I looked swore by HDMI and that was the only cable you need. Also, thanks for the reply.

Edit: Alright so, the Digital Audio cable worked wonders. Thanks for the help!
