Question AST Premium Exec 386SX/20

I have a 1989 AST Premium Exec 386SX/20 laptop. It still boots up and, then, once the "DOS Shell" is on-screen, it simply "peters out". I have 2 batteries and all the User Guides but cannot figure out how to get past the DOS Shell (even though I can Scroll through it)?

Any advice? (Pls. don't be a snark...)

This system is pre-Windows 95 (I installed WIndows 95 on my AST 486DX250). If Windows is installed, it's likely Windows 3.0/3.1. Look for a Windows folder in the C drive and see if there is a "Start.Exe" or something similar.
