I really like the look, feel, and sound of the astro a40s and I want to buy them. However, I was wondering if it would be bad to buy them without the mixamp. I already have an asus xonar 7.1 sound card. Would they still sound good without the mixamp, and just plugged into the sound card with razer surround running?

Solution
you dont need the mixamp if you already have a good soundcard.

which xonar card? most have dolby-headphone support (even the $30 xonar dg does).

dolby headphone on the card is going to be better than razer surround which is a bit buggy getting it to work on some systems. it wouldnt work for me, but apparently it works for some.
