ASTROSMASH have "auto pause"?????

I was playing Astrosmash earlier today in the basement, when I had to
go do something, I just walked away. I was on the purple screen, and
had twenty ships left. Anyway, a couple hours later I came back down
and the screen was black. I pressed the disc, and the game resumed: I
was on the blue screen and had only ONE ship left. How do you account
for this?

I'm not sure why you left your basement. Was the call of the outside
world finally too much? Maybe there was a sale on somewhere, I'm not
sure.

Actually, I think the dogs probably needed to go outside. Then, I got
sidetracked because I was also using the internet, and watching season
1 of "Saved by the bell" all at the same time.

I don't think it's just Astrosmash, I think most every Inty game has this
"auto-pause" "feature."

I seem to recall leaving games sit at the "Mattel Electronics Presents"
screen, the screen blanks out, then if you hit a button it comes back up.

It might be something in the exec that time-outs the display after a
certain period of inactivity. I'll ask some of the guys over on
IntvProg.

As for a pause feature, you can press 1&9 or 3&7 at the same time on the
keypad and it'll "pause" the game. Pressing any key resumes action.
I've been told that leaving the game in this "pause" mode for a long
period of time will, essentially, crash the game making you have to reset
the system.

I've used the 1&9 pause feature a number of times while playing
Astrosmash. It's tough to play for six plus consecutive hours without
your hands becoming numb.

One of these days when I'm not so busy running ECGE, trying to open a
game store, working 50+ hours a week, networking with people, etc... I
may update the IntvGN homepage. The design's been rather stale for some
time now and I think the last bit of info I posted was either for the
direct-to-TV units or Arnauld's work on Mad Drivin'.
