ASUS G50V Voltage

I have an ASUS G50V that I decided needed a new power jack. I took it apart and installed the jack and now can only get about 5-7 volts on the multimeter between the positive lead of the jack to either the outer casing of the cable or any of the other jack terminals. Any idea how this could happen? I had installed a brand new jack yesterday and got the same results. The one on there now is the original, but I tested it before installing by just plugging it in , and I got the 19v between the jack terminals.

It's not an issue with the AC adapter? I have a G50VT as well but haven't had to replace the power jack. Did it get yanked or did it wear out from so many plug/unplugs?
