Dear friends,

I have an ASUS G51jx on which I set a bios password. A few weeks ago tried to access the BIOS but I forgot the password.

The fact is that I searched online in hundreds of forums and no one had a solution for this.

Troubleshooting steps already performed:

- removed the battery and restarted, tried to keep it out for more than 4 hours
- cleared CMOS memory
- tried to update the BIOS with Flash bios and I'm prompted for the password in order to do so
- apparently this password is not stored in CMOS as for normal laptops
- it more like a master password than BIOS one
- after I inser the password for three times wrong I get a code like a registry code at the bottom and then I have to reboot

I need to know if there is software or something that can erase that password.

I asked ASUS support for this but they will charge me with more than 40 euros for this and I don't have this sum now.

Can anyone please help me, it's very frustrating as I'm unable to access the boot menu and reinstall windows. I can't do anything on BIOS.

Many thanks for trying,
Cristian L

Sorry, but you'll need to contact Asus and have them assist you.

The battery trick no longer works with modern laptops since the BIOS password is stored in flash memory which means it does not need electricity to "remember" the password.
