ASUS PU 401 LAC ram upgrade (Corsair Vengeance 4gb) not working...

tried reinstalling hardware twice and checking msconfig for mem capping but only recognises the factory installed (fixed to mobo) 4gb.

I've checked asusTeK but there's no bios update for my model... dont know what to do.

Running windows 8.1 pro

I've noticed that CPUID recognises the 4gb corsair memory in slot 1 but then the 4gb fixed to the mobo is ignored. I thought they would be used in tandem to have 8gb total memory.

Ddr3.

The ram is recognised but there is 4gb attached to the mobo from the factory and one spare slot.

So I purchased a corsair vengeance 4gb dimm as I thought that would bring the total ram up to 8gb.

But now it's only recognising the external corsair dimm and not the ram soldered to the mobo.

Yeah 64bit windows 8.1 pro
