Hi everyone, I am absolutely TORN between these two laptops so I hope you guys can help me out here.
So I'm looking for a laptop for gaming and school.
I've heard that the gt70 dominator pro 890 has overheating issues while the ASUS has dual fans and keeps itself very cool.
HOWEVER
msi has better processor, more video memory, asus apparently glues their graphics card on the laptop, not allowing other people to change it.
I also need around 3 hours of battery life (seems like msi only has around 2 hours, asus-3.5 hours) including fast wireless connectivity for web browsing
and if anybody has previously owned laptops from each company can you tell me the build quality of their laptops?

I'd go with the Asus, won't touch MSI due to their QC issues (in effect very poor QC)

Is it possible that I can switch the cpu and the gpu somehow on the Asus rog g750jz? And would you suggest that I just get a cooling pad with the gt70 dominator? I think a cooling pad is only like 40 bucks. So would you suggest it this way?

Yep, laptops can be a real PITA, if you want any changes, best to get one with what you want in it (includes how much DRAM)
