I don't have enough budget to afford a new notebook so I want to upgrade my X550VX. It came with 1 on-board 8gb ram, and 1 empty additional slot, DDR4, 2133. As far as I know, 1 slot DDR4 can support up to 16GB.

So, my plan is either
  • Putting 16gb Corsair ram in the empty slot. Hopefully, I can get 24gb ram. But I read that this series can read only up tp 20gb, so 4gb ram will be wasted. Will this save to be done on my notebook ? If someone know how much ram is supported in X550VX please let me know.
  • Putting just 8gb Corsair ram, but then I can't maximize ram I can get. All I can get is 16gb. If the maximum readable ram is 20gb then I missing 4gb to be maximized.
If this is necessary, I'm a student working on computer vision field, so a higher ram is always a good news to me , so which is the better option to me ?

Oh it's from Crucial website, not ASUS website.
But basically if 4GB is onboard, maximum is 20GB
and if 8GB is onboard, maximum is 24.
Make sense, thanks.

Also there no official Crucial store in my country. There's only Corsair and Kingston. I know that Corsair is better than Kingston, but is Corsair also better than Crucial ?
Probably I still can get Crucial around even though it's not from the official store.
