I recently dug out my not-used-in-years Sony 850 preparatory to
selling it, and discovered that it's developed an audio fault. At
first the sound was distorted and "sawtoothy", and then it disappeared
completely. The video is fine, there's just no audio coming out of the
player at all - not from any of the rear outputs or the headphone
socket.
Given how little the player is worth now it's obviously going to be
uneconomic to take it to a Sony service centre for repair (assuming
that they even still repair them!), so does anyone have a service
manual that they might be willing to scan the relevant parts of, or
even just an idea about what the problem might be and advice on where
to look inside the machine? I'd obviously like to think it's something
fairly straightforward, like a capacitor drying out, rather than some
impossible-to-replace proprietary component.
Any advice gratefully appreciated!
