Audio switch questions

This switch is mad for the right, left, and video inputs, but could this be used as a 5.1 surround sound switch? Also, if so, would using it degrade my sound quality?

If you used coaxial digital it should work. You may have issues with synchronization (like the audio is a millisecond off from what you are seeing which is noticeable). Otherwise I don't see how you can do 5.1 with 3 ports, 5.1 analog requires 6, you would need 2 switches.

No it only uses 3 connections (right and left, center and subwoofer, and back right and back left)

What device are you connecting into it?

A PC and an Xbox. Yes, I do realize that I will need an optical to analog converter.

Ok the 5.1 output on a PC if you have the 3 3.5mm jacks they are 2 channel with a common ground. This switch will not work, as RCA jacks are "1 channel". I don't even think there is anything that can help you there. The Xbox only has optical as far as I know.
