Seriously, I am shocked at how the Australian people have not revolted against their government. First L4D2, now the whole internet!

I'm not 'revolting' because what they're filtering (porn, etc etc) are not sites I would regularly visit. So unless they follow China and block harmless sites like Facebook, I honestly can't be too worried. I'm looking for a list of the blocked websites though, anyone wanna post a list?

remeber this is how the shit starts.filter one thing and then another and then another so if you support a goverment doing this you are a fool.
if they are going after porn sites then is that not what a parent is supposed to do in a family situation.Who would want a goverment to be your "parent"

Just to add to my above comment (no edit button!!)

"This would include sites containing child sex abuse, bestiality, sexual violence or detailed information about how to use drugs or commit crimes." - ABC News site

I'm fine with that, because I wouldn't want to go on those sites in the first place. But then again, why is the Government deciding for us on which sites we can visit?

[citation][nom]gorehound[/nom]remeber this is how the shit starts.filter one thing and then another and then another so if you support a goverment doing this you are a fool[/citation]People always cite the slippery-slope when seeing the government take action. "Oh, but if they say my kids can't play with lead-based paint today, what will they take away tomorrow!?"

When the government blocks something you legitimately want/need, THEN it's time for a revolt. Never get mad at your government on days they choose to work (a rarity). I wish the guys here in the states would consider what's good for their people instead of what's good for their lobbyists.

[citation]blocking RC-rated material can be done with 100% accuracy[/citation]
what they mean to say is they bocked all the RC content.. as well as a whole bunch of non RC content by mistake...

they already had plans to use the filter to bock sites that sell RC games (because we don't have an R rating). those saying that its too early to panic clearly have no idea how retarded the Australian government is. at very least the utter incompetence of our telcos, our isps, will insure a long and shitty transition.

Any form of censorship, even if it's against things you personally object to, is subject to the slippery slope.

If you actually believe the government puts censorship measures in place to 'protect' the people you can find your picture in the dictionary, under 'sucker'.

Living in Australia I am annoyed and frustrated with our governments approach to digital content. The governments report on the trial of the Internet filter found that it won't actually stop people accessing RC material, add to that the fact that they are not publishing the black-list and you have to ask why they are doing this?

A leaked copy of the trial black-list was released earlier this year and it included a dentists website as blocked. Not a good start and just another way for our government to implement a level of control

I have revolted.... all of my friends have revolted... and for those aussie fools that are happy for them to do it because the government is blocking sites they dont go to....

How will you know what they are blocking if you cant get to it in the first place.... It will give the goverment power to control what the people can and cant see... it isnt limited to child pornography... it can be anything...

Also, is the government that stupid to think that people wont be able to steal their 'blacklist' of kiddie porn sites??

That blacklist will be the list of every kiddie porn site around the world available.... and once it gets stolen and leaks, all of a sudden you give all of these potential viewers of the stuff an easy list of what they want....

its all not good...

Now that they won't have the same porn problems that the rest of the world is facing, they'll become the most productive economy, person for person.

It's not just RC material, it's prohibited material. Who deems what is "prohibited"?

Read this article, it filters out the lies and ambiguity: http://www.inquisitr.com/52298/australia-confirms-censorship-plans-tells-fibs-on-the-filtering-trial/

[citation][nom]weirdguy99[/nom]I live in Australia...this sucks so much dick. I guess the current gov't will get a hammering at the ballot.[/citation]
No they won't. Most people have been blinded to the details. This is not like the ETS where everyone knows about the tax. Many people don't even know about this censorship.
