I have downloaded Avira and want to know if I can turn off the Antimalware Service Executable for Microsoft Security Essentials. If I end the task in task manager, there is a popup by MSE saying that I am not protected. What I want to know, is that can I keep the Antimalware Service Executable turned off while running Avira? Or do I need to keep it on for other reasons?

Cheers

If you are going to run a 3rd party antivirus, then I'd simply disable the entire Windows Defender module. It's redundant and unnecessary to have both running. Running an antivirus PLUS an antimalware is a good idea but there is no reason to run dual antivirus modules.
