Hello,
Would it harm if I uninstalled the Microsoft Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager? I believe it would just reinstall itself upon rebooting. I use Win XP and a Lenovo C500 laptop. The battery works fine but it's shown as missing since I updated my Roots Certificates yesterday 6/26/10

Solution
It probably wouldn't hurt to try, but keep the XP CD handy just in case it doesn't uninstall. Either that or contact MS and see if they have an update available or any known issues regarding the roots security certificate.

The other thing you can try is removing your battery from the compartment and gently cleaning off the battery terminal contacts on both the battery and the computer. Used to see this a lot when I had an older laptop I swapped between batteries (I had one I used when sitting as it would not hold a good charge, but I did not want the new one to get run down too far).
