Here's my problem... I have dell inspiron n5010.. My battery works fine.. but when i charge my battery and then unplug the charger ( while the laptop is running), the laptop suddenly switches off after about 15 sec!!! But when i remove the battery and put it back in it works fine and lasts for about 3 to 4 hours. The problem is if i am working on laptop with power plugged in and also the battery, if there is a power failure then the laptop switches off, it doesn't takes the battery!! Please Help !!!!

Have you made any changes to the default Windows Power settings?
Look in control panel -> power options (or click battery icon in system tray). There are settings in there that tell Windows what to do when your computer switches from AC to battery. AFAIK there is no setting that will abruptly shut off your laptop if it switches to battery mode - the closest setting I could find was "put computer to sleep" after x minutes. In advanced power settings there is a "Battery" section in which you can tell Windows what to do if your battery reaches a certain threshold of power reserve. You can define, for example, what to do when the battery reaches "critical" and even what percentage of battery reserves that is.

Again, though, Windows never wants power to be turned off abruptly, so there are no settings for that. There are settings to tell Windows to "shut down" the computer - but that is referring to a controlled shut down, not a power off.

To me it almost sounds like some kind of hardware failure, though I can't guess what it could be.
