Battery unable to be charged

What does this message mean..."Battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility." No changes have been made to my laptop. This just randomly showed up and battery will not charge! Help!!

If this is a Dell laptop the problem is usually in the battery ID chip inside the laptop charger.
If you can, try a different charger.
