I think I'm going to sell my current laptop in order to finish building my gaming desktop (this monster http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Landru/saved/RMR48d) but I'd still like to have a laptop. I'd mainly only use it for taking notes and writing essays (I'll be a Cornell student in the fall), so it doesn't have to be powerful. I can get $1000 for my current laptop, and I need $750 to finish building the desktop, so that leaves $250 for a new laptop. Obviously I'm going to be doing my big computations and storing my data on the desktop, so the laptop really only has to have a screen, a keyboard, a decent battery, and enough power to run a word processor. It doesn't need to have Windows either; I'll probably replace whatever OS it has with Ubuntu as soon as I get it. So far the Acer c720 looks good for my needs, but it would be great to get some other opinions from the community. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
