Hello:

I was in a CompTIA A+ course last year and used part of my stipend to buy a Lenovo ThinkPad. It has 32 GB of soldered-in RAM. I switched out the NVME 1 TB drive for a 4 TB drive. I’m not a gamer, so I can’t address that user case. The laptop came with Windows 11 Pro, which I’ve had many issues with. The laptop has an AMD Ryzen 5 chip. I’ve found the laptop bogs down with several apps open. The battery life is terrible—maybe 3 ½ hours unplugged. Maybe a ThinkPad further up the price range would suit you. I paid around $900 USD for the laptop, and that’s after days of negotiations with their sales reps. I also sent the laptop back for replacement, as there were a lot of bad blocks on the 1 TB SSD, which was surprising since it was a Samsung drive.

If I had to do it all again, I might still get a Lenovo, but would probably get a model with an Intel 9 chip and an OLED screen. After years working on Apple gear with Retina screens, the Lenovo’s screen always looks pixelated to me. Also, the built-in speaker sound tinny at best.

So there’s my recommendation of what you should NOT buy.
