Best Laptop for Under 500

Looking for a laptop under/around 500. I want to be able to play Minecraft, Planetside 2, Blacklight Retribution, Skyrim, at low settings. Mostly for the price range I've been seeing i5-3210m with HD 4000, A8s, and A6s.

Things is I'm worried about the quality of a refurbished laptop vs a new laptop.

When you're looking for a laptop to play games, especially in this price range the most important component is the video card. You'll be hard pressed to find an i3, let alone an i5, with a discrete video card.

Your best bet is an AMD A6, A8 (like you've already stated) or a refurbished A10 (like Mclovits linked). Remember that the HDD can be upgraded to an SSD (big performance boost) and system RAM can also be upgraded (check the system specs for max RAM) so the single most important thing is the video card.

For $500 the best new Laptop I could find was an Acer Aspire A8-4500M Radeon 7640G for $499 + $4.99 Shipping.

Other than in gaming, how well does a i5-3210m+HD4000 do compared to the A10 in other task?

The performance would be similar, though an i3 is probably a better processor in terms of raw computing power, to play games, an A8 or A10 will provide immensly better performance while still being able to do everyday tasks. Don't worry about the quality of the laptop, if it is below standard (gross, scratched, or malfunctional) it will be replaced and yoiu can find another one, but that HP is one heck of a deal for around 500 dollars.
