Question Best laptops for a student going to high school

(sorry if I put the wrong flare)as the title says, I’m going to high school next year and our school issues us Chromebook but after like three or four tabs open, the computer starts to explode and get really hot, which is not fun. If you’re doing research stuff we need to have multiple things open and I was wondering what some laptops might be also my mom says I don’t need a laptop because the district gives her nice laptop says she is a teacher so she doesn’t understand the struggle. i’m also a gamer that helps.

What is your budget?

A Chromebook should be more than sufficient for "researching" with multiple tabs open in a browser. Not so good for gaming, but that isn't the priority. Correct?
