I'm looking for a reasonably good speaker system that will last for several years. A sub woofer is preferred. There are a lot of cheap speakers out there (logitech 7.1 $50????) that I want to avoid. Any ideas? I hear bose is good, as is klipsche, I'm not so sure about others.

You mentioned Bose. I just set these up and could not be happier with this set. Moved from a 75w 5.1 Boston Acoustic system. These are >$200, but you get high quality, professional sound for the price. No guesswork. There is also a 5.1 type surround version offered at Newegg. I may be spoiled, my Mazda CX7 has a great sounding Bose system and I have Bose surround speakers on my home stero. :hello:

I passed on these.

I'll look into them. How do they do in terms of filling a room with sound. You know what a I mean? certain speakers can produce a whole lot of sound without being particularly loud.

I do not see where wattage is rated with this set. I think the second set I listed and a good 24 bit digital soundcard with effects would have a better chance of filling a room with sound. These are more 'private listen' 3 way speakers. The set sounds a lot better than my 75w 5.1 Boston Acoustics set up.
