Try this...
- Go into "Control Panel" and click the "Power Options".
- Next to the plan that is currently selected click "Change Plan Settings".
- Now click "Change Advanced Power Settings".
- Open the "Sleep Setting" and find "Hybrid Sleep"
- Change/set it to allow.
- Now click "Apply" and then click "OK".
- Finally shut down and power up the computer.
If that doesn't help, then it may not be a setting but the display or a connected cable that are the problem. To test that try the following...
- Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
- Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
- Turn on the external monitor.
- Turn on the laptop.
NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button...
