Is it the screen alone that isn't turning on (and you can hear the hard drive, fan, etc. turning on) or is it the whole laptop that isn't turning on.

if you have a monitor in the house use the funtion key and plug the laptop into a monitor and try ext video port. if the laptop posts to the monitor the backlight on the lcd has gone bad.,
