Blu ray player conecting too home cinema system

Hi I have just bought a Sony S590 Blu Ray player is there anyway for me to connect it to my pre existing Surround sound system as after I'd set the blu ray player up I got NO sound through the speakers. What/is there anything I could do too correct it. Many thanks

This depends greatly on how your system is currently set up/what system you are currently using.

i've got a sony surround sound system which was conected to my old dvd player via optical connection and that was connected to my TV via a scart lead which was then connected too my Sky box via a different scart lead. But the Sony blu ray player doesn't have a scart connection I have nothing for it too connect too my TV
