We have a LG 32LH5000 TV it's 5 years old and "HD ready", and we hope later this year to update it. We have just bought a LG blue ray player recommended by Curry's, and are trying to connect it using HDMI cable. when we plugged the cable in the words "HDMI1" came on the TV screen and we lost all signal and had to re tune the TV. We left the blue ray off, and haven't connected it back in case we lose the signal again, and have to start all over again. If we do put the HDMI back and and switch it back on, will we keep losing the signal? We are not techie people, and don't want to keep losing the TV - or would this be a "one off"?

Are we missing something here?

Thanks.

How do you mean - we still couldn't get the telly back until we put auto tune on - will it work now if we plug the HDMI cable back into the blue ray and the TV, or all go off again? Sorry we are a bit "thick" with these things! :??:

There is a function call CEC (consumer electronic control) which works through HDMI. When you turn on the bluray the TV will switch to the input that you have the bluray connected (HDMI 1). Sometimes it will even turn on the TV if it is off. All you have to do is manually select the input you want to use. If this annoys you then you may be able to turn it off in the TV and or bluray menus.
Also when a TV is HD ready that means it doesn't have an over the air HD tuner built in so you would have to get one and connect it if you want OVA channels. If you use cable or satellite you are already getting HD if the service provides HD channels.

for starters for the bluray plug it into hdmi 2 or 3 on the tv (dont use hdmi 1 as it doesnt carry audio)
hdmi* will flash on screen to let you know youve connected something.
switch the bluray player on

either press menu button on tv remote ,then select input from the on screen display on tv - this wil let you select all external boxes plugged in or antenna/freeview channel.

OR

simply use the input button on tv remote (top right of remote) to cycle between all available sources on each button press.

Its a uk set with freeview built in mate (OTA via aerial), the issue is as you said I think CEC kicked in when the bluray was plugged in & suzie didnt know how to change the input back to tv/freeview channel mode.
Honestly think thats all it is - my mother in law had exactly the same issue a cople of months back after going led smart tv with inbuilt digital tuner from an old crt set used with a sat box.
