These headphones come with airplane audio adapters so you can use them in airplanes, now, based on this article, wired mode does not allow noise cancellation - are you sure of this ?
I had an older version of quiet comfort (probably 5 years ago) and was able to use noise cancellation while flying and using the airline entertainment system, according to this article it seems this feature is gone.

QC35 ii's don't have the airplane adapter. It's been removed. Wired connections do use noise cancelling but can be used without it ie revert to normal wired headphones if the battery runs out. Noise cancellation requires battery charge in the headset.
