"In another case of Britain?s Dumbest Criminals, a rigged cop car has caught out one unfortunate British thief three times this year."

'has caught out'? Pot...Kettle...Black?

Also got to wonder about the sentences... if he's done this 3 times in one year. "Ok this time we are really angry! We are going to slap both of your wrists and please don't do it again!"

If the sentences are so short, why even bother with this 'sting' operation? Who is the dumb one again?

It is so easy to do time in the UK. Probably easier than being free for some of these lazy criminals. If he's done it 3 times and still not learnt then it isn't really working is it. This country is way too soft.

Yes, because tougher sentences lower crime rates... right...

How about trying to help the guy get a job? Provide him with an education in prison. Very few criminals cannot be rehabilitated if treated correctly. Sure there are some that seem beyond our reach, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to help them.

Fine, have soft sentencing... but then don't bother with a 'sting' operation to put people in jail for such a short time!

No, it's far better to spend money on a sting operation in order to put people in jail for a few hours... that's the way to spend government money.

Let's face it this 'sting' operation is a joke... it apparently stings the same people, doesn't really take people off the street for very long and is wasting police resources that could be used elsewhere. While the article was focused on the 'dumb' criminal... I find this whole activity by the police to be even more dumberererer.

The bait car type programs like this are actually very effective at reducing auto theft. In the city that I live in a similar program has reduced auto thefts by 40% in a little over 3 years. IMO, they do need to keep chronic offenders in jail longer, how can they be helped if we just put them back on the street?
