Broken laptop screen

I have a HP laptop that’s 10 years old and the screen is broken. It doesn’t have a HDMI option to plug in so I have a vga cord but I can’t get it to project on the tv. It has never been connected to the tv before and I have been pushing the f4 button and still nothing. Please help!

It is possible that the cable you are using to connect to the TV isn't working, or that the TV isn't registering as a usable device on such an old laptop. You may want to try an external monitor rather than a TV and see if that will work.

If that doesn't work either, then you are probably looking at a bad GPU and possibly even a motherboard replacement.
