Business Laptop Recommendations

Howdy,

I'm looking for a business laptop with the following specs:

Windows 7
14-15" screen (resolution is not a big deal. Laptop will be docked most of the time)
i3 or i5 processor (i5 may be a better bet?)
8GB RAM
At least 500GB of storage

I'm currently eyeing the Thinkpad T450 at Amazon. Is this a good price?

What other laptops would you recommend? Dell, HP?

there is nothing better than ThinkPad out there and i tried them all (Dell, HP and even MacBook pro as corporate devices).
I prefer the X series, but if you must have larger, T is alsp excellent choice.

How does this Dell Latitude E5470 look for $551 with tax and shipped.

I would get the Dell Latitude 5470 for $688 vs. the one for $551. The 512GB SSD itself is worth the $137 premium if you want to have a more responsive laptop since programs and files will load much faster compared to a standard hard drive.


However, you will not be able to connect the laptop to two monitors unless you purchase something like USB to HMDI display adapter. While the laptop has a VGA and HDMI port, only one of them can be used to output video signals. Most laptops only has a single RAMDAC chip which is used to process and transmit two video signals. One video signal goes to the laptop's screen while the other is used via the VGA or HDMI port. A USB to HDMI display adapter has it's own RAMDAC chip while will allow the Latitude 5470 to connect to a second external monitor. These things generally sell for $40 I think.

Do you think it's worth paying $200 for two more years of "ProSupport"/onsite repair warranty?

As for connecting two monitors... I was planning on getting a docking station and plugging one montior through VGA and the other through an HDMI to DVI adapter.

The larger ssd and the discrete gpu makes it more worthy than all the above. I dont see any point of downgrading to Win 7 unless you have any software compatibility/optimization issues. Win 10 is the future and Win 7 support will end by 2019 i think.

As for the display, as explained by Jaguar, the laptop as a processing unit can output single channel display at a time. To utilize the two ports you need an adapter to fire the secondary port simultaneously. I am not sure whether docking stations come with adapters prebuilt. If they do then you can.

As for the on site warranty, it is usually a good idea. This will help you to make a better decision.
